The end of summer is the perfect time to preserve your favorite fruits. Follow these simple steps for freezing your favorite summertime produce items.
Freezing fruit is super easy! First, you need to wash and sort your fruit. Using a paper towel, pat dry your fruit, removing any excess water. Spread fruit in a single layer on a baking sheet and place into the freezer for a few hours, or until frozen. Once your fruit is frozen, place fruit in a heavyweight, airtight container or freezer bag. Pack fruit to the top of the container and remove any air from the freezer bag. Keep as much air out as possible. Mark the container with the date and place the fruit into the freezer.
You can keep frozen fruit for up to one year. Frozen fruit is great for smoothies and toppings for yogurt. If you’re using a fruit that may brown, like sliced apple, dip fruit into a mixture of 1 quart of water and 1 tablespoon of lemon juice before freezing.
