If you asked anyone with arthritis if the cold weather wreaks havoc on their joints they would say yes. Just like humans arthritis combined with cold weather can cause discomfort in our pets. According to the Arthritis Foundation one in every five dogs suffers from arthritis. Here are some tips to keep your pets out of pain during the winter months.
- Know the symptoms. Your pet may not cry out in pain, but you will notice they will move a little slower. If you notice your pet is moving slower and is cautious about jumping on furniture or using stairs talk to your vet.
- Keep your pet warm during the winter months. Get your pet a pet-friendly heating pad they can lay on to keep warm or buy them a sweater.
- If your pet is overweight look into a weight loss plan for them. Carrying around that extra weight can cause more pain to achy joints.
