10 Healthier Indulgences for Your Sweet Tooth

Is your New Year's resolution focused on losing weight or being healthier? Here are some tips for making that transition to good eating.

1. Fudgsicles. They're cold, chocolate and only 100 calories each. Sugar-free fudgesicles are even lower in calories!

2. Frozen fruit bars. They're sweet, with real fruit and 80 calories or fewer. Sugar-free popsicles are considered a "free" food, because they're so low in calories.

3. Sherbet or sorbet. Close to ice cream, but healthier: 100 calories per 1/2 cup versus 150 calories in vanilla ice cream.

4. Angel food cake with fresh-cut strawberries and chocolate sauce. It tastes decadent, but it’s only 120 calories versus 250 calories in yellow cake with chocolate frosting.

5. Pudding made with low-fat milk. Cool, creamy and easy to make, plus it's high in calcium. 150 calories per 1/2 cup. Use fat-free milk for even fewer calories.

6. Fig Newtons or gingersnaps. Love cookies? Keep these in your cupboard, and you’ll get less fat and more fiber.

7. Fruit crisp instead of fruit pie. Seems like a small change, but the change of crust saves about 100 calories and 10 grams of fat per serving.

8. Cinnamon raisin bagel with 2 tablespoons fat-free cream cheese instead of a glazed doughnut. Switching out the morning piece of cake gives you close to the same amount of calories but saves about 10 grams of fat.

9. 1 ounce of good-quality dark chocolate. It has less than 150 calories, but it's packed with satisfying flavor—and antioxidants.

10. 10 jelly beans. Get that "I'm having some candy" feel for only 50 calories — and no fat. Of course, jelly beans aren't particularly nutritious.
