Spirit of Christmas Food Drive

Spirit of Christmas Food DriveWe are celebrating 30 years of conducting a November and December food drive, known as the Spirit of Christmas Food Drive in most communities, and have renewed excitement about helping our neighbors in need in 2011.

The goal is to provide about a week’s worth of food—a 30-pound box containing non-perishable items plus a BGC-donated free roasting hen—for less-fortunate families who are screened by local relief agencies, nonprofit organizations, school officials and other groups.

We feel no one should go without a decent meal at Christmas and strive to help those who need it most, especially single-parent households, the elderly, and those who are facing unfortunate circumstances—often unplanned such as a job layoff, a house fire or other situation.

We can’t do it alone, of course. We have always partnered with service organizations such as Kiwanis, Lions and Rotary clubs—to name a few, food banks and relief shelters, law enforcement and first responder volunteers and many other groups to carry out this project that assists tens of thousands of families each year with more than 500,000 pounds of food collected in over 100 towns and cities across the Ark-La-Tex.

Men, women, youth and children from all walks come together to volunteer their time and energy during the busiest season of the year and help their fellow man. These people truly make the “spirit of Christmas” come to life, on top of our employees and customers, schools, businesses and other individuals who graciously donate and work to make it a rewarding and successful project.

So, as we gear up for another holiday season, be on the lookout for ways to assist—whether by volunteering to help a partnering organization or by donating money and food. The gift is fulfilling and helps carry out the real meaning of Christmas.
