Question: Why do some low-fat and light product have a lower score than the full fat products?

Answer: NuVal® measures the overall quality of the food looking at 30 different nutrients and nutrition factors. In some products when fat is removed sugar and sodium are added and positive nutrients like fiber is removed resulting in a lower score.

Question: Why does canola oil have a higher NuVal® score than olive oil?

Answer: The scores of oils are driven by their fat profiles. Canola oil has a higher amount of omega-3 fatty acids and a lower amount of saturated fat resulting in a higher score.
