Brookshire’s Makes Donation to Smith County

Brookshire’s Makes Donation to Smith CountyOn Monday, May 24, company officials announced a donation of $300,000 to Smith County for the reclamation of five fire-damaged properties in the heart of downtown Tyler, Texas.

The area has historical significance to BGC in that company founder W.T. Brookshire opened his first store in 1928 at the site, located on the east side of the town square.

The building facades will be stabilized and preserved, and the property will be turned into an attractive public-use courtyard.

“We will salvage every historical component possible from the buildings and find a way to incorporate them into future plans for the site,” said Judge Joel Baker with Smith County.

County officials say the open plaza space will be a pleasing addition to the downtown landscape while long-term plans are developed.

BGC’s Board Chairman Brad Brookshire and President and Chief Executive Officer Rick Rayford presented a check to county officials during a press conference at the site.
