CITY OF TYLER HONORS WOOD T. BROOKSHIRETYLER, TEXAS-- Brookshire Grocery Company founder Wood T. Brookshire has been honored with the placement of a marker in the City of Tyler’s “Half Mile of History” on the downtown square.

A part of Tyler’s historic preservation, the “Half Mile of History” pays tribute to people, places and events that have made significant contributions to Tyler’s history. It is a permanent, outdoor, half-mile loop around Tyler’s downtown square featuring plaques placed in the sidewalk.

It was in Tyler that Brookshire opened the store that became the cornerstone of Brookshire Grocery Co. In addition to the business contributions he made to the city, Brookshire also served as a director of the Tyler Chamber of Commerce in 1945 and was on the Tyler School Board from 1941 to 1950. Brookshire also laid the groundwork for the company’s involvement and support of hundreds of local civic and charitable organizations and events each year.
