One of the key elements to a diabetic diet is to eat natural, healthy foods. Talk with your doctor or dietician to set up the ideal plan for you, but these are some suggestions for maintaining a healthy diet and lifestyle:
- Choose whole grains: bran cereal, brown rice and whole wheat pasta.
- Bake with whole grain flours
- Choose whole fruits over juices, since they have more fiber.
- Make sure all beverages have no added sweeteners.
- Purchase fresh or frozen vegetables without added sauces, fats or salt.
- Trim all visible fat from meat, and bake, roast, broil or grill instead of fry.
- Make your dairy products low-fat or nonfat ones.
- Choose heart-healthy spreads for your bread.
Take a look at this list. This really isn't a special plan with exotic requirements. It's merely a healthy diet, with a focus on pure, wholegrain and natural items. So even if you're not diabetic, why not consider a few of these ideas? You've got nothing to lose, and everything to gain!
