Disposing of Medications

Disposing of MedicationsThe rule used to be that if you don’t need a medication any more, flush it down the toilet. That way it won’t accidently be taken by a child or animal.

Not too long ago we discovered that the medications can contaminate water systems, so flushing has been discouraged.

So what’s the best way to get rid of medications? Experts suggest mixing medications with something that makes them very unappealing—such as coffee grounds or used kitty litter—and throwing them in the trash.

This will keep them away from kids and pets and will also prevent harm to fish and other wildlife habitats.
