Do-It-Yourself Iced CoffeeGourmet coffee and specialty coffee drinks are expensive, but boy are they delicious! Wouldn't it be great if you could make your own cool, refreshing iced coffee at home? You'd save a fortune, and always have it available. Oh and wait: what if it was also easy to do? It would be just about perfect, wouldn't it? Not all of us have fancy espresso machines, though.

Here's an idea for a tasty iced coffee drink that uses coffee concentrate—and that's very easy to make. Once you have the concentrate ready, putting the drink together is a snap!

Use four parts water to one part coffee. For example, combine 1/3 cup or 6 tablespoons of ground coffee to 1 ½ cup water (at room temperature). Let it sit for a minimum of three hours or overnight. To use, pour the mixture through a sieve or strainer, lined with a coffee filter, to insure that all grounds are removed. Fill a glass halfway with the coffee concentrate, then add the same amount of water. Sweeten as desired.

For a richer, creamier taste, fill the glass halfway with coffee concentrate and add the same amount of milk or cream. Sweeten as desired. Refrigerate until ready to drink or serve over ice to drink immediately. For flavoring you can add pure concentrates of vanilla or other flavorings, or use bottled prepared flavored syrups which are available in sugar and sugar free versions.

Use your imagination to come up with great flavor blends. And from now on, a specialty coffee drink is as close as your refrigerator!
