If you feel like you're compromising on quality or nutrition, or that you're "cheating" by using frozen items, think again: frozen fruits and vegetables are often more nutritious than their fresh counterparts.
Food intended for freezing always gets processed and quickly frozen just hours after harvest, which assures shoppers that they're buying food at its peak goodness.
Freezing preserves the majority of nutrients in foods, even when frozen for an extended period of time. As an added bonus, all the washing, trimming and chopping has been done for you!
Frozen veggies are the starting point for all sorts of creative meal ideas. Take green beans, for instance. Get a bag of French-style green beans and you're halfway to a super side dish! Microwave them right before serving and dress them up with these ideas:
- Sprinkle on grated parmesan cheese.
- Add toasted slivered or sliced almonds and butter-flavored seasoning.
- Dust with salt-free herb blend seasoning.
- Add a glaze of olive oil.
- Toss in thinly sliced red bell pepper strips.
- Sauté diced onions and mushrooms and then stir in the beans.
