Eating Healthier Isn’t That Hard

Would you like some simple rules to guide you towards healthier eating? Try these:

            • Snack on a handful of nuts, instead of cookies or chips. Keep the portion size under control, though. One handful is plenty.
            • Use plant-based fats such as avocados and olive oil, rather than butter, sour cream and mayonnaise, when making dips and spreads.
            • Try vegetarian meals from time to time, getting more familiar with soy products.Eat more fish to get heart-healthy omega-3 fatty acids.
            • Eat beautiful colors. You can't beat brightly colored fresh fruits and vegetables. Eat them whenever you can: with meals, as snacks and for dessert.
            • Plain is good. Enjoy the pure flavor of vegetables, meats and produce without adding lots of extra ingredients, sauces and marinades. Simple is good!
            • Make all of your beverages sugar-free ones. This can mean a switch to diet sodas, or bottled water, fruit juices, teas and more. Keep in mind that sugar-free isn't necessarily calorie-free, of course.
