Football Cup Cakes!Everyone loves a special treat, and treats are even more special when they follow a theme. This is football season, so what better treat than football cup cakes? The obvious choice is to make chocolate cupcakes with chocolate frosting, because that's the color of a football, but you can also try for colors that match your favorite team. If you're feeling very adventurous, you can try the new craze in cupcakes: using the unfrosted cupcakes as building blocks to make a large shape; frost the entire shape together to make it look like a large cake. A football would be a fun shape to try for!

Regardless of the end design, make cupcakes according to package directions and allow to cool thoroughly before frosting. Once you spread a thick layer of sweet frosting over the cakes, dip your spatula (or spreading knife) in hot water. Smooth your hot blade over the surface of the cake—this will allow you to smooth the surface of the frosting.

Once smooth, make some decorator frosting. You can use a can of ready-to-decorate icing, or you can make a simple drizzling blend out of 1 cup powdered sugar and 3 tablespoons water. Mix to the desired consistency (adding more water if needed) and then add any food coloring you may desire. To decorate, pour the frosting into a quart-sized zipper-top plastic bag. Make sure the bag is sturdy, so that it doesn't burst in the middle of your project! With scissors, clip off a very tiny corner of the bag at the bottom. Twist the top of the bag to create a decorating bag and then make football shapes, and add the laces so that your cakes look just like individual footballs.

Now how easy was that? Cooking is fun when you have a fun project!
