Good Fats, Bad Fats! Are you confused about which fats are the ones that help your body and which ones cause problems? Monosaturated and polyunsaturated fats are considered the "good" fats, because they help lower bad cholesterol and raise good levels. This type of fat is found in vegetable oils, nuts, fish and avocados.

Saturated fats are the ones that cause problems with the circulatory system and our waistlines. Saturated fats come from animal foods like meats and full-fat dairy products. These are the foods to eat in moderation.

Trans fats are the worst type of fat. They don't occur naturally and are created when oils are highly processed and refined. They're most commonly found in fast foods and snack foods, and it's best to avoid them as much as possible. Common sources of trans fats are French fries, cookies and snack chips. Food manufacturers are responding to demand for reduced trans fats, so you'll see more and more product labels showing that foods are trans-fat-free.
