Healthy Portions For Kids
Do you want to start healthy eating habits with your children while they are young? Here is a way to show your kids how to have the correct portion size with their toys.
As we all know, seeing is believing, and when you can see a concept put into action, your children are more likely to remember it.
Get a paper plate; this will be a replica of your child’s plate at dinner. Get a CD, which will represent the portion of whole grains your child should eat.
A deck of cards or a box of 8 crayons is the portion size for meat. Then get your child’s yo-yo; this is the correct portion size of fruit. The last thing is take a half of a tennis ball; this will represent the size of vegetables your child needs to eat. Label each item with the correct food group. Glue each of the items to the plate, fruits and vegetables should be half the plate. Now your child can refer to this when they are eating.
Once your child gets familiar with the portion sizes, it will be easy to measure the portions served at friends' houses or at restaurants. And you know what? This could be a lesson they remember for the rest of their lives!
