There are many ways to be healthy, depending on your particular focus. Vegetarians aim for nutritious meals centered on vegetables, whole grains and beans.
There are many varieties of vegetarians, and there are many reasons why people choose this alternate food lifestyle. Grab a veggie burger and read about the general categories of vegetarianism:
Vegan: a person who uses absolutely no animal products of any kind (no eggs, dairy, fish, honey, leather products etc.)
Lacto-Ovo Vegetarian: a person with a diet of vegetables, fruits, grains, legumes (beans), seeds and nuts, and includes eggs (ovo) and dairy (lacto). No meat, poultry or fish.
Lacto-Vegetarian: a person whose diet is similar to lacto-ovo vegetarian, except that no eggs are included.
Pesco-Vegetarian: a vegetarian diet including fish, eggs and dairy, but no chicken or meats.
Macrobiotics: a diet based on a philosophy of a healthy balance. Whole grains make up about one third of the day's foods, vegetables make up about a quarter to a third, legumes average 10% of your intake. Fish is also eaten by many macrobiotic vegetarians.
