Is Your Pet Ready For the Super Bowl?

Is Your Pet Ready For the Super Bowl? It's almost funny: it's the big moment of the Super Bowl. The score is tied. The outcome depends on this particular play, and everyone is on the edge of their seats. Pass, interception, tackle, fumble…everyone goes wild…..including your pets.

Even the friendliest, most mild-mannered pet can get nervous or excited when faced with enthusiastic football fans. All that yelling and jumping can be frightening!  They may even feel that you're in danger; that could lead them to defend you by biting.

If you think this might happen at your house, put dogs and cats in a quiet room away from the crowd during fan festivities.

Even if your pets are calm and accustomed to sports gatherings, there's another reason you should take care at Super Bowl time. Overfeeding is a common problem, and events like football parties are very risky for pets. With a whole roomful of people feeding them, and the potential for foods that are bad for pets (chocolate and grapes, to name two), a pet owner needs to be especially vigilant. If you can't trust yourself or your friends to keep from feeding the snacks to your pet, then the pets shouldn't be allowed in the game area. Remember: when it comes to pets, the best super bowl for them is their own food bowl!
