Keep Your Salad Lean and Green

Keep Your Salad Lean and GreenWhat typically fattens up a salad??

Everybody knows that salads are super-healthy and great for people on a diet. But if you're not careful, you can turn a healthy salad into a heart attack on a plate.

The key is knowing what adds the extra fat and calories.

Here are some choices to use in moderation:

  • Real bacon pieces
  • Creamy dressings
  • Too much dressing (especially thick creamy ones)
  • Too much avocado
  • Cheese crumbles and topping
  • Croutons

Instead, try making a healthy salad with a minimum of 6 different raw vegetables, using small amounts of an oil-and-vinegar based dressing and adding beans for fiber/protein. The best dressings are the thin ones with a base of olive oil and vinegar, rather than the thick and creamy (and fatty) ones.

Keep it lean. After all, that's one of the reasons you're eating a salad!
