Lunchbox Ideas

Lunchbox Ideas Guilty parents vow every January to do better when it comes to packing their children's lunches. After all, who wants a PBJ day after day?

Lunchtime boredom is probably one of the biggest reasons that adults tend not to pack their own lunches—they run out of creative ideas!

Here are a few suggestions that will brighten up your child's lunch—or yours, too, for that matter!

  • Whole fruits, such as apples, peaches, and bananas
  • Turkey with lettuce and tomato in a pita pocket
  • Peanut butter and banana on whole-wheat bread
  • Celery or carrots with peanut butter
  • Guacamole dip with blue corn chips
  • Red, orange, yellow, and green pepper strips (with or without dip)
  • Homemade soups, stews, or chili (in a wide-mouthed thermos)
  • Homemade trail mix
  • Fruit, vegetable, or cheese kebabs
  • Peanut-butter-filled pretzels
  • Salads (toss your child's favorite veggies together and add a dressing)
  • Whole-wheat bagel, whole-wheat pita, or graham crackers with nut butter
  • Fruit salad with yogurt or cottage cheese

Use ice packs and insulated lunch containers for best results.
