MOOve Over! There is a New Milk in Town

MOOve Over! There is a New Milk in TownMmmm….milk; it is cold, creamy and oh so delicious. A cold glass of milk may be your beverage of choice in the morning or complete your dynamic duo of milk and cookies.  A few years ago if you were lactose intolerance you were unable to add milk to your cereal or dunk a cookie into a glass of milk. Today you can find many different milk alternatives such as rice milk, almond milk and coconut milk.

Almond milk is the new, hot milk alternative. It’s lower in calories than cow’s milk and rice milk. It can have as low as 35 calories and 2.5 grams of fat per a cup. If you’re worried about missing out on all the vitamins and minerals that cow’s milk offers, worry no more. Almond milk is a good source of vitamin A, calcium and vitamin D. Like almonds, almond milk is also a good source of vitamin E. It’s delicious for dunking cookies or pouring into a bowl of cereal.

Rice milk is an excellent alternative for a family with allergies. Rice milk does not contain any nuts, soy or lactose. Since rice milk, like almond milk, does not come from an animal it does not have saturated fat or cholesterol; perfect for heart health!
