Make Your Salad Special
More than just lettuce.

A green salad is a super-healthy addition to any meal and can be a nice side dish or the main course. Take a tip from restaurants and add interest to your salad by including something extra. Take care not to overdo it—one extra ingredient is plenty—and try to make sure it's a healthy extra, not a high-calorie, high-fat goodie.
With that in mind, here are a few suggestions:
- Slivered almonds
- Dried cranberries
- Mandarin oranges
- Pineapple tidbits
- Diced apple
- Sliced mushrooms (sautéed or raw)
- Sliced grapes
- Crumbled bacon
- Chopped nuts
- Carrot curls
- Sliced lime or lemon
- Croutons
- Chinese noodles
- Tortilla strips
- Canned beans
- Shredded or cubed cheese
- Hard-cooked egg
