Making a Sandwich at Home

When looking at a menu you may choose a sandwich or salad thinking it’s the healthier option. Sandwiches and salads can quickly turn into a nutrition nightmare.

If you’re craving a sandwich it’s best to just make one at home. Start off by picking a bread with a high NuVal score. These breads are normally lower in sugar and sodium, with higher amounts of fiber.

If you need a little dressing on your sandwich pick up a lite mayonnaise and spread about a teaspoon over your bread.

Place a slice, about one ounce, of cheese and meat onto your bread. Instead of stuffing your sandwich with meat and cheese, stuff it with fresh vegetables!

Some good vegetables to add are onions, tomatoes, lettuce and bell pepper!
