Need a Treat?
Just because you're on a diabetic diet, that doesn't mean you never want a treat. Here are a few ideas for healthier-type treats. Check with your doctor to see if these fit your plan.
Sherbet or sorbet. Close to ice cream, but healthier: 100 calories per 1/2 cup versus 150 calories in vanilla ice cream. Sherbet has less fat, and sorbet is fat-free!
Angel food cake with berries and chocolate sauce. It tastes decadent, but it’s only 120 calories versus 250 calories in yellow cake with chocolate frosting…and it's fat-free!
Fruit crisp instead of fruit pie. Changing the crust saves about 100 calories and 10 grams of fat per serving.
Ten jelly beans. Satisfy that "gotta have candy" urge for only 50 calories — and no fat. Jelly beans will never win awards for being healthy, but they are fat-free and lower in calories than many types of candy.
