New Year's FlowersWhen you think of New Year's Day, do you think of flowers? Maybe you should! After all, when it comes to new beginnings, flowers are the perfect symbol of that!

New Year's flowers send the message of love, unity, friendship, warmth and closeness. While January may be the month for frost and dark cloudy skies , that makes it the ideal time for the brightening presence of  flowers. Amaryllis, hyacinth, narcissus, hellebore, euphorbia, protea and tulip bring a bright, sunny feel to the gloomiest winter day.

New Year's Day is the oldest and most universal holiday. The Romans were the first to observe January 1 as New Year's Day in 153 B.C. Julius Caesar developed the Julian calendar in 45 B.C., retaining Jan. 1 as the beginning of the new year.

In 1582, Pope Gregory XIII instituted the Gregorian calendar still in use today, keeping January 1 as New Year's Day.
