Organics for Earth Day? Naturally!
What a difference a year makes. In April, 2007, just in time for Earth Day, Brookshire's and Super-1 Foods introduced re-usable, fabric shopping bags. They took the community by storm, and a year later, you'll see them everywhere. Shoppers have found that the new bags are more than just ecologically friendly; they're convenient, strong, reusable and handy for more than just groceries. You'll see the attractive brown fiber bags doing double-duty as gym bags, tote bags, gift bags, brief cases….and even as grocery holders!
And now it's 2008. Earth Day is ready to roll around again, and for the third year, Brookshire's and Super-1 Foods will participate in Go Organic! For Earth Day. Our stores will feature special sale items, special publications and items for children as well.
Go Organic!for Earth Day is bigger than ever. This April, more than 3,500 grocery stores across the nation and 40 leading organic manufacturers will come together to help consumers discover, understand and ultimately enjoy organic products as part of their daily lives. Go Organic!for Earth Day includes money-saving coupons that are available in free booklets (a $12.55 value!) at participating retailers. Some retailers will host Earth Day events and provide organic food demonstrations, product samples, and educational materials. The campaign's website, www.organicearthday.org, features recipes, giveaways and a store finder.
For the first time, Go Organic!for Earth Day is holding an organic curriculum contest for K-12 teachers. Five outstanding teachers will win organic food for one day at their schools, provided by Go Organic!for Earth Day partners: CLIF Bar & Co., Del Monte Foods, Nature's Path Foods, R.W. Knudsen Family, Santa Cruz Organic, Stonyfield Farm and more! Interested teachers may register for free with Earth Day Network at www.earthday.net/programs/teachers/default.aspx, where they can download the contest instructions.
Earth Day Network, www.earthday.net, seeks to grow and diversify the environmental movement worldwide, and to mobilize it as the most effective vehicle for promoting a healthy, sustainable planet. It pursues these goals through education, politics, cultural events, and consumer activism. Current grassroots programs include the Climate Change Solutions Campaign, Campaign for Communities, and the National Civic Education Project. Earth Day Network works with more than 105,000 K-12 teachers in the United States alone. In 2006, EDN launched Earth Day Television, greatly expanding its reach to a global network of more than 15,000 partners and organizations in 174 countries. More than 500 million people participate in Earth Day civic activities, making it the largest secular civic event in the world.
The 38th Earth Day will be celebrated on April 22, 2007.
