Plan B: Rescue Dinner by Planning Ahead

Plan B: Rescue Dinner by Planning AheadWe've all had those days where things just didn't go according to plan. In spite of this, we still need to eat dinner.

Household disasters don't mean that you have to call for pizza, though.

Make sure your pantry is stocked with some never-fail choices that make Plan B as delicious as something you slaved over all day.

Plan B items can include:

  • Dried pasta and jarred spaghetti sauce
  • Canned tuna and a jar of chicken gravy (over toast)
  • Canned beans and tortillas
  • Canned chili and boxed cornbread mix
  • Dehydrated or canned soups and stews
  • Rice and pasta mixes. Just add meat (even canned chicken or tuna) and you've got dinner!

And it's not just the pantry that can bail you out in times of crisis. Keep your freezer full of go-to items that will make everyone—including the cook—happy and satisfied. Try these suggestions:

  • Frozen, fully-cooked meatballs in sauce. Heat and serve over pasta or in buns.
  • Fully-cooked chicken and beef strips. They're a stir-fry or fajita, waiting to happen!
  • Heat and eat biscuits. They add a finishing touch to even the simplest meal.
  • Frozen fish or shrimp cook quickly and offer heart-healthy Omega-3 oils.
  • The many prepared entrees, from lasagna to turkey make desperation dinners a thing of the past.
  • Pizza. Why call when you can bake your own in less time?
