Resourceful cooks have a few products that are always on their shelves—and salsa is one of them.
When in doubt, pull it out—and add it to whatever you're cooking. Need a few suggestions?
Here are some ingenious ways to use salsa to make mealtimes easier and tastier:
- Add to scrambled eggs or omelets.
- Heat leftover chicken or beef strips with salsa, and stuff into pita bread. Sprinkle with cheese.
- Microwave black beans or refried beans with salsa. Roll up in tortillas.
- Stir salsa into canned soups.
- Use salsa instead of mayonnaise on sandwiches.
- Combine chopped vegetables (fresh or leftovers) with pasta and salsa for a quick salad.
- Marinate chicken breasts in salsa and cook for a Mexican-flavored entrée.
- Stir salsa into cooked pasta or rice dishes.
- Go vegetarian: cook canned corn, salsa and black beans together for a stovetop casserole.
- Add salsa to spaghetti sauce
- Spoon salsa onto toasted garlic bread for a bruschetta-style appetizer.
- Make tasty dips by combining salsa with melted, reduced-fat cheese, sour cream or cream cheese.
- Spread salsa and shredded mozzarella cheese on a tortilla. Broil or microwave for a quick Mexican pizza.
