School to help Spirit of Christmas Food Drive
Prior to the Moore Middle School Mustangs and Hubbard Middle School Huskies football game in Tyler, students and faculty followed through on a challenge to see who could collect the most non-perishable food for the Spirit of Christmas Food Drive, sponsored by Brookshire’s, Super 1 Foods, and the Tyler-Rose City Kiwanis Club.
The schools agreed that the loser’s principal would have to kiss the mascot of the winning school at the game.
Results were announced at halftime with 14,290 pounds of food collected and Moore Middle School declared winner. Losing Hubbard Principal Anissa Kiener graciously kissed the Moore Mustang mascot.
The real winners of the friendly competition, though, are hundreds of families who will receive a box of food at Christmas in Smith County.
Jimmie Horton, store director at Brookshire’s on East Fifth Street in Tyler, announced the results at the game and thanked the schools for doing a wonderful job of helping their community.
