Secret Ingredient: Frozen MeatballsEverybody needs a few things in the freezer, ready to pull out and turn into a last-minute supper. Preparing extra casseroles and freezing them is a great option, but they aren't fast. They need a good 24 hours to thaw before baking. We're talking about fast, fast, fast foods that are also delicious. Do such things exist?

Pre-cooked meatballs, available with a variety of sauces, are a meal ready to go, and they're right in the freezer case! Add them to pasta with jarred sauce, combine them with cheese and vegetables in a sub sandwich, bake them in mushroom gravy for Swedish meatballs, slice them over homemade pizza or add them to your favorite casserole. And who doesn't love a meatball sandwich? Heat with pasta sauce, pile on a toasted bun and melt some mozzarella cheese over top.

You'll find frozen meatballs in the prepared dinner and meat sections of the freezer section at Brookshire's. You can find them plain, or with any number of sauces included. Make your choice depending on what you plan to cook, and the rest is super-duper quick and easy.

Since the meatballs are already cooked and have a flavor or sauce, all that's really left is to add a rice or pasta, and your dinner is done. Pour the meatballs over biscuits, or place in a pastry casserole, if you like, for other options.

A traditional favorite is spaghetti and meatballs, and it's at its easiest when you use jarred pasta sauce, frozen meatballs, and ready-to-cook pasta. Just add Parmesan cheese and breadsticks! Take those same ingredients and substitute the pasta for crusty hoagie buns for meatball sandwiches. Mama mia! That's tasty!

Meatballs in brown gravy are just as tasty over pasta, or mixed with brown rice and sautéed veggies. Make a "hot brown" sandwich by pouring meatballs and brown gravy over several slices of plain bread. That's diner food!

The sky's the limit when you have a few bags of pre-cooked meatballs in the freezer. Never be caught without a dinner idea again. As long as you have meatballs, you have dinner!
