Sometimes we tend to have a hard time throwing leftover food away.
No one likes to see perfectly good food go in the garbage can.
Here are a few safety tips on keeping leftovers:
- Don’t keep leftovers for more than 3 days.
- Refrigerate leftovers within 2 hours after food has been prepared. If temperatures have reached over 90° F food must be refrigerated within an hour.
- Store leftovers in a shallow small container. You may have to store your food in more than one container.
- When reheating leftovers heat food until the internal temperature is at least 165° F.
- Make sure you clean, separate, cook and chill leftovers properly! Visit fightbac.org to learn how to properly store leftover foods.
