Studies show that a child with several severe sunburns before the age of 18 has a double risk of developing melanoma. Also, early skin damage causes wrinkles, liver spots and discoloration later in life.

 

Basic sun protection can keep your children’s skin safe and healthy for years to come. And remember, it’s never too late to start protecting yourself from the sun’s harmful rays.

  • Stay inside or in the shade between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. this is the hottest part of the day.
  • All kids are at risk for sunburn, even children with dark complexions.
  • Dress your kids in protective clothing.
  • Use children’s sun block. There are brands designed specifically for children and babies.
  • Provide your own shade. Try a stroller with a canopy, a hat or beach umbrella.
