Sweepstakes Awards $10,000 to Aikin Elementary School
On Friday, July 30, representatives from Kraft Foods and Brookshire’s Food & Pharmacy presented a $10,000 check to Aikin Elementary School in Paris, Texas.
Frances Reed, Aikin’s technology lead teacher, entered the school in the contest and was randomly selected as the winner in the 2010 Capri Sun/Kool-Aid Jammers TerraCycle Event sponsored by Kraft and Brookshire’s.
“TerraCycle has created a terrific program that promotes sustainability, teaches children about recycling and helps our schools. We are proud to present this check here in Paris,” said Dan Schafer, customer category manager for Kraft.
Schafer explained TerraCycle is an innovative, eco-friendly company that turns empty drink pouches into unique products such as tote bags and pencil cases.
As a regular feature of the TerraCycle program, schools and other nonprofit organizations can launch their own Drink Pouch Brigades and will then earn two cents for every used drink pouch returned to TerraCycle.
The contest was advertised on drink pouches and in Brookshire’s sales ads and website.
Last year Marsha Richardson won the sweepstakes for Overton Elementary School.
