Thanksgiving On The Go
Will you be going over the river and through the woods this year?

If you plan a yearly family trip for Thanksgiving, it won't surprise you to learn that Thanksgiving is America's busiest travel holiday. And travel—especially with young children—can be stressful. Plan your trip well and you can have a happy memory to look back upon later.
82% of holiday travelers do so by car. Most car trips for Thanksgiving involve a trip of more than one hour's drive, and 25% have trips that exceed 200 miles. The American Automobile Association (AAA) estimates that more than 37 million Americans will travel at least 50 miles from home during the holiday period. And an average national price of $1.96 per gallon for self-serve regular gasoline, up 40 to 50 cents from last year, is not expected to prevent many road trips.
The busiest Thanksgiving car-travel days are Wednesday and Thursday, for obvious reasons. If you can, try to leave Tuesday. Nothing dampens the fun of a family holiday more than hours of bumper-to-bumper holiday traffic.
Make sure you always buckle up and that everybody in your vehicle buckles up. That saves more lives than anything else. Allow plenty of time to reach your destination, build in time for stops at least every three hours and do not drink and drive.
Give yourself plenty of time; bring some food with you, and something to do for the wait times. Consider DVDs for children to watch—it'll help everyone stay happier.
