The Frozen Grill

The Frozen GrillWhen you think of grilled foods, you don't always think of a freezer as a helpful tool—but it is! Stock up on meat and seafood when it's on sale, and freeze it until you're ready to grill.

In fact, the freezer can actually speed your grilling along. Before you put meat or seafood in the freezer, add a marinade to a zipper-top freezer bag. Put in your meat, seal and freeze. When you take the meat out of the freezer, it will marinate as it thaws. That saves a step!

Resist the temptation to save even more time by grilling your food while it's still frozen, though. That's not smart, since the outside will become charred before the center is thawed. Completely thawing meat and poultry before grilling helps it cooks more evenly. Use the refrigerator for slow, safe thawing or thaw sealed packages in cold water. You can microwave defrost if the food will be placed immediately on the grill.

So the next time you see chicken drumsticks or tuna fillets on a super sale, stock up! You'll be able to enjoy fresh-grilled treats whenever you're ready!
