Tyson and BGC donate product to East Texas Food BankOn March 31, 2011, Tyson Foods and BGC donated 29,000 pounds of boneless chicken to the East Texas Food Bank as part of an effort to feed people in need and promote public awareness of hunger in America.

The presentation was made during a press conference at the food bank in Tyler.

Rick Ellis, senior vice president-chief marketing officer for BGC, joined Tyson representatives Jim Shilling, customer development manager, and Dennie Swingle, director of customer development, in presenting the chicken to Dennis Cullinane, executive director of the East Texas Food Bank.

“We are truly grateful to Brookshire’s and Tyson Foods for their commitment and support of our fight against hunger in east Texas,” Dennis said, explaining that some 183,000 residents receive assistance through the food bank each year.

“This donation is especially helpful in that chicken is a protein-based food that is so vital to our program,” he added. “We have worked closely with the East Texas Food Bank since it was founded,” Rick said. “They do a great job serving the needs of people in the area, particularly the elderly and children. We are so pleased to be a part of this worthwhile effort.”
