BGC breaks ground on new Super 1 Foods in south tyler

– Brookshire Grocery Company leaders and Tyler city officials joined today to celebrate the groundbreaking for the company’s new Super 1 Foods store, located at 172 Centennial Parkway in South Tyler. Featured speakers at the ceremony included Tyler Chamber of Commerce Chairman Charles Hill, Chamber President and CEO Tom Mullins, City Councilman Mark Whatley (District 5).

Settled between Academy Sports and Outdoors and The Village at Cumberland Park, the 58,000-square-foot store will become the company’s 34th location under its Super 1 Foods brand and will create approximately 150 jobs for the Tyler community.

Among the store’s features will be a fuel center and a pharmacy with a drive-thru window, along with bakery, deli, meat, beer and wine, floral and produce departments.

Sustainability will remain at the forefront of construction, with several environmentally friendly features to be installed including automated lighting controls, a refrigeration leak detection system, polished concrete flooring, skylights and a clerestory roof to allow for natural day-lighting.

BGC leaders anticipate the store to open in late 2015, bringing the company’s total number of Brookshire’s, Super 1 Foods and FRESH by Brookshire’s locations to 153.
