kids: dessert bites

Everyone loves desserts, especially kids, but desserts can really pack on the calories. When enjoying desserts, it is important to practice portion control. Check out these dessert bites!

  • Dip dried apricots halfway into melted chocolate; chill until firm.
  • Dip a banana in dark chocolate, top with nuts or sprinkles and freeze.
  • Slice apples, spread peanut butter over apple slices and top with granola.
  • Cut brownies into 1-inch squares and dip their tops into melted bittersweet chocolate.
  • Spread peanut butter over a wheat tortilla. Sprinkle mini chocolate chips over peanut butter and roll up tortilla.
  • Make miniature fruit tarts. Cook sugar cookie dough in a mini muffin pan. Once cookies are cooled, top with vanilla yogurt and fruit.
  • Make Rice Krispies Treats in a mini muffin pan. Top with favorite frosting.
  • Cut pound cake into thin sticks, sprinkle them with powdered sugar and top with a sauce of dried cherries. Serve with a bowl of whipped cream.
  • Pipe a dollop of buttercream frosting on top of purchased or homemade shortbread cookies. Garnish with chopped, dried cranberries and chopped pistachios.
  • Serve a selection of cheeses with fresh fruit and toasted nuts.
  • Dip purchased or homemade meringue bites into chocolate then roll in toasted coconut.
  • Fill the bowls of a selection of pretty spoons with pudding or pastry cream, and top with piped whipped cream.
  • Serve a selection of old-time candy.
