Stay HydratedWhen exercising in the heat, it is important to be hydrated before heading outdoors. Most of the time when we start to feel thirsty, we are already dehydrated. Early signs of dehydration are thirst, flushed skin, premature fatigue, increased body temperature, faster breathing and pulse rate, increased perception of effort and decreased exercise capacity.

When exercising, you need to consume at least 3 to 6 ounces of fluid every 15 minutes. For exercise lasting longer than 60 minutes, you should consume a fluid containing about 6% carbohydrates with electrolytes. For every pound of weight lost during exercise, you should consume 16 to 24 ounces of fluid. Weigh yourself before and after you exercise to know how much fluid has been lost.
