Apples help promote a healthy lifestyle. Their benefits were first recorded in the medieval age, giving rise to the “apple a day” slogan. Start the day with your favorite apple variety blended into this recipe for apple yogurt from the U.S. Apple Association. You’ll get all the nutrition of an apple plus an extra boost of dairy and protein from the yogurt – a perfect morning starter.

Apple Yogurt

Ingredients:

3 cups diced or sliced apples (NuVal 100)
2 cups plain, low-fat yogurt (look for NuVal 50+)
1 tsp vanilla
1/2 tsp cinnamon
2 tsp brown sugar, if apples are tart

Directions:

Cook the apples in 1/2 cup water for 5 to 10 minutes or until soft. Reserve 1 cup and put the rest into blender with 1 cup yogurt, vanilla, cinnamon and brown sugar. Blend very briefly. Mix all ingredients together.
